Are You a Morning Person?

I'm starting to think there is a time limit on how long you can try to turn into a morning person. Well, technically I haven't "tried" to become one, but since school forces me out of bed at six am (has for years), I figured my body would naturally switch to liking mornings. Guess I thought wrong!

The sound of the alarm forces me out of blissful slumber and one of two things happen: my eyes dart open in fear or I can't force those babies open for the life of me. What gets me out of bed? The promise of coffee. Lots of coffee.

I enjoy waking up to sunlight. Feeling rested instead of groggy. Not having to immediately hit-the-ground-running. Sitting in my pajamas. Nursing that pot of coffee.

School started yesterday for my kids. Mornings are now a workout in themselves. Get up. Get dressed. Make sure the kids are moving. Do something with my hair. Take the dog out. Start the coffee. Make lunches. Clean any remaining dishes and sweep the floor. Maybe make some breakfast. Maybe not. Remind kids about afternoon events. Wave goodbye to them. Grab my first cup of coffee. Sink into the couch with a smile on my face.

The house is mine again! Silence. Love it!

Maybe mornings aren't so bad after all. :)

Are you a morning person?

Have a fab weekend!!

  1. I like to move slowly in the morning, even if I'm up at the crack of stupid. A cup of tea, reading blogs, watching morning news. I always thought schools shouldn't begin until a decent hour like 10 am.

    1. "Crack of stupid." Hilarious!! I agree. 10am would be just about right. In a perfect world, I would never get out of bed before 8am! :)

  2. I am totally NOT a morning person. And even though I have 3 boys, they and my husband are ALL morning people. If you want to feel lazy, live in a house where you have to set an alarm for yourself, but your 3 teenage boys don't need one!

    1. You make me smile, Edie! I can't believe your entire family likes mornings. Eeww! I hear you on feeling like a slacker, too. Why isn't anyone impressed at how late we can stay up? :)

  3. I confess, I am a morning person. When I can get to bed early enough, I get up at o'dark hundred and I have great writing times. My first cup of coffee comes when my honey (who's also a morning person) brings one to me, usually while I dry my hair.

My oldest boy is a morning person too, but my youngest.....well let's just say "Oscar" comes down most mornings and turns into my son when he's been awake for a little while.

I'm also a night person, but usually I need a nap in the afternoons. ;) Okay, I'll slink away now, since I'm in the minority.

    1. Aw, what a nice way to wake up, Jeanne!

Your son and I would get along great. It takes me a while to wake up and be nice. Naps are friends. :)

  4. whatever. ;) (Oh, and I'm spoiled. DH gets the coffeemaker ready the night before. And he doesn't even drink the stuff!)

Oh...side note. I thought I was already subscribed here, but since you're not being delivered to my inbox, I'm going to try it again!! Lol

Have a super Friday, Jill! :)

  5. Don't know why, but the first part of my comment was cut off in midstream! Goofy..

Anywho, what I was trying to say was....I AM a morning person, but I usually need a recharge later in the day be it a short nap, coffee, chocolate, or whatever.... :)

    There. Now you know.

  7. I prefer quieter mornings too. And do not expect me to respond before I've had at least 1/2 my cup of coffee. I wake up better to sunshine, but please no singing birds:) As long as I'm up before the rest of the house, I seem to do all right. But with school starting it means my mornings are going to be early. Nothing earlier than 6 though. That's just plain ol' crazy!

  8. Jill: I am an unusual type. I can do mornings unless I have had a horrible night where I couldn't sleep. I prefer mornings to get my time with God in. Also, I prefer the mornings to work on my writing.
That way no one disturbs me. I have to do quite things in the morning because Hubby gets to sleep sometime between 4:00 and 6:00. This morning was a time when I had to use the snooze alarm for an extended time. But, I did wake up around 12:30 and couldn't go back to sleep.

    1. I prefer mornings with God too! I'm not good for much brain work at that time, so a little Bible reading and prayer does me good. Never feel bad about the snooze! :)

  9. I feel I am most productive in the mornings but about a half hour after I get up. My mornings have just gotten crazier too. We got a new puppy two weeks ago plus the kids and I have to get ready for school. So the alarm is going off MUCH earlier than in the summer! :)

  10. I do like a more restful morning, and for me, that means I have to get up about 5:30. Ugh! Since our move we've all been sleeping in a lot more (one month, and we're just now starting to feel recovered), but I start school today with the kids, so hopefully having a schedule will force me to start getting up when my alarm goes off, instead of 40 minutes later.
